Buyer's Guide to Nissan Air Filters
The Types of Nissan Air Filters
The first air filter on board is the engine air filter. It's usually found near your air intake, making it easier for the filter to capture contaminants before they can get into the engine and cause trouble.
You also have a cabin air filter that shields your HVAC system from allergens and other microscopic troublemakers. Most are located behind the glove compartment, though they can also be found underneath the front cowling on the passenger side of your vehicle.
How to Spot Faulty Air Filters
Air filters can get blocked up or grow degraded, though. Signs of trouble include:
- Misfiring engine
- Weaker engine performance
- Poor acceleration
- Reduced fuel efficiency
- You hear odd noises coming from the engine
- Your cabin smells musty
- You can't keep a consistent cabin temperature
- You hear whistling noises coming from your air vents
- Darker exhaust emissions
When To Replace Your Air Filters
Your owner's manual notes your recommended maintenance schedule, but you can plan to replace your engine air filter every 48,000 kilometers, and your cabin air filter every 24,000 kilometers or so. Of course, your driving style and commute conditions can affect those milestones, so it's recommended to check the condition of your filters on a regular basis.
