Buyer's Guide to Nissan Belts, Pulleys, And Brackets
What Nissan Belts Do
There are three kinds of belts operating behind the scenes with your vehicle. Your timing belt links the crankshaft to the camshaft, so your pistons and valves work in tandem with one another. Serpentine belts work off the idler pulley, crank pulley, and tensioner to operate parts such as the alternator. Drive belts, the last type, move parts like the water pump.
What Nissan Pulleys Do
Pulleys help to power the different belts, though the kind referred to as tensioners help to make sure the belts remain taut.
What Nissan Brackets Do
Brackets help to secure and align the belts and pulleys, keeping them in place even when you're driving on rough surfaces.
How To Spot Problems With Your Belts, Pulleys, or Brackets
Signs of trouble include:
- Frayed belts
- The engine stops running
- You see pieces of broken or cracked belt material
- The belts are either too loose or too tight
